Ultimate OM-D: Olympus E-M1 Mark II Review
![]() |
Olympus' OM-D E-M1 has been one of our favorite mirrorless cameras since its introduction in 2013. It impressed us with its build quality, image quality, ridiculous amount of manual control (that's a compliment) and boatload of features. Three years later, it's still very competitive.

Gear of the Year 2016: Dan's Choice – the DJI Mavic Pro (which he stinks at flying)
![]() |
| The Mavic Pro inspired me creatively and challenged me as a photographer more than any other product this year. Even if I still stink at flying it. Photo by Dan Bracaglia |
I first flew the original DJI Phantom in 2013 as part of an article for Popular Science and have had drones on my mind ever since. However, my obsession with the idea of flight goes back to childhood, when I would launch into the sky anything I could get my hands on: kites, rockets, model planes, RC helicopters etc.
The 10 best full-frame DSLRs in 2016
We rate the best full-frame DSLR cameras from Canon, Nikon and Pentax
If you look inside any professional photographer's kit bag, the chances are you'll find a full-frame DSLR. These are bigger, heavier and more expensive than the consumer DSLRs used by the rest of us, but the bigger sensor size, tougher construction and pro-spec features are worth the extra outlay for those who take pictures for a living.

Modern Mirrorless: Canon EOS M5 Review
Introduction
![]() |
The Canon EOS M5 is the most enthusiast-friendly EOS M yet. It's a 24MP mirrorless camera built around a Dual Pixel APS-C sensor, giving it depth-aware focus across most of the frame. On top of this it adds a built-in electronic viewfinder, a good number of external controls (including twin control dials) and a well implemented touchscreen.
This level of direct control puts it comfortably ahead of Sony's a6000 and a6300, and more on par with Panasonic's GX85 (GX80 in some markets) and GX8 enthusiast models. All of these cameras aim to offer stills and video capabilities in relatively small bodies but with a reasonable level of direct external control.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV review
Canon's 5D series of cameras has a rich heritage – the original EOS 5D bought full-frame photography to the masses, the Mark II unleashed Full HD video capture for the first time on a DSLR, and while the Mark III didn't have quite the landmark features of its predecessors, its improved AF system made it one of the most complete DSLRs of recent times, loved by enthusiasts and pros alike.
Despite the range deviating a little since then, with the arrival of the 50.6MP 5DS for those wanting even more pixels, the arrival of a new generation of the 5D is a big deal.
